Further details announced on the future of Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Land Management

The Farming Minister has announced further details on the future of Countryside Stewardship and Environmental Land Management. This includes:

  • Increased payment Rates for Countryside Stewardship

  • New Incentives for the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI)

  • Increased Payment Rates for Tree Planting

Increased Payment Rates for Countryside Stewardship We are very pleased to see a number of Countryside Stewardship revenue payments have again been increased this year. Additionally, at last, many of the capital item rates have also been increased to account for current cost increases. These payment rate changes apply to those annual options in agreements starting on or before 1st January 2023, and applications received in 2023. The revised payment rates for Capital items only apply to applications from 5th January 2023. For full details of the payment rate changes follow the links below. Revenue options payment rates from 1 January 2023 Capital items payment rates from 5 January 2023 New Incentives for the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) A new payment of £20/ hectare for the first 50 hectares entered into a SFI scheme will be available to help cover the costs of taking part in the scheme. This is in addition to the payments that you will receive for the practices and management done. Further insight has also been given into the progression of SFI. There will be 6 new standards available to apply for in 2023. Details of these standards and payment rates will be released in the next few weeks, alongside additional information on the expansion plans for both SFI and Countryside Stewardship in 2023 and 2024. Increased Payment Rates for Tree Planting Capital payment rates for tree planting (including the England Woodland Creation Offer and Tree Health Pilot) will be increased, alongside increases to annual maintenance payment rates. It is hoped that farmers and landowners will be open to more options to help meet the national commitments to reach Net Zero by 2050 and stop the decline of nature by 2030.
